The ASSITEJ Estonian Centre is an organisation bringing together Estonian professional theatres with a focus on young spectators and theatre professionals. The Centre belongs to the international association ASSITEJ International (Association Internationale du Theatre pour l’Enfance et la Jeunesse / International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People).
The mission of the ASSITEJ Estonian Centre is:
ensuring high-level theatre experiences to every Estonian child,
raising young audiences’ awareness of theatre in society,
information provision, coordination and expert opinions from Estonia and abroad.
The ASSITEJ Estonian Centre brings children’s theatre from the rest of the world to Estonia, facilitates introduction of our theatre to the world, educating ourselves on the topic of young audience theatre and finding contacts with others involved in youth theatre across the globe.
Once a year, the ASSITEJ Estonian Centre organises an international theatre festival for young audience called NAKS, also international and domestic workshops and seminars on children’s culture.
The international World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People is celebrated on March 20th.
The Centre started issuing the Little Prince Award in 2022.
