Theatres

Kuressaare Theatre is a small open theatre with a set repertoire. A significant part of the repertoire is made up of Estonian dramaturgy, primarily dramatizations of local topics and the plays and literary materials of local authors.

The only professional theatre on the island of Saaremaa was re-established in 1998. The predecessor of the theatre was the professional Kuressaare Theatre which operated in the same building during the years 1940-1951, and which in turn, evolved from the Kuressaare Eesti Selts’ (1886–1940) drama club started in 1935.

The creative manager of Kuressaare Teater is Aarne Mägi and the director is Piret Rauk.
