The Estonian Academy of Art is the only educational institution in Estonia, where it is possible to study scenography at a higher level. The Scenography Department has an integral approach to studies: it is not only technique and professionalism that matter in creation, but also the overall artistic impact. Scenography is the art of creating fictional worlds based on invoking scenographic images, which enrich the spectators emotionally and mentally. The innovative scenography curriculum has been compiled with the best speciality traditions in mind.

The speciality of scenography focuses on creating visually integral solution for theatre and film production. In essence, scenography encompasses many fields of activity and is a vital instrument of any production used to guide the spectator’s imagination. It is a mix of a number of different fields, and in contemporary performing arts, the presence of the author’s position is appreciated more and more. A successful combination of architectural and performative elements, not to mention video and light.

In addition to speciality knowledge, scenography studies provide experience in other areas of contemporary art. Scenography students are open-minded people with broad-based cultural interests able to initiate and conduct creative processes independently.
