In 1955 in a train from Nõmme to Tallinn: on one bench there is a young girl Helmi, dozing; on the other sits August, an old man from the country; on the third bench sits Lemmergas, aged 30, dressed in a tattered soldier's greatcoat. The journey from Kivimäe to Balti railway station proceeds, interweaving reality, imagination and play. "Viva life!" shouts young Voldemar Panso, a legendary theatre director. He is on his way to the premiere of his production "The King Feels Cold", but during this short train ride he plays through, together with his fellow passengers, half of his life - his father and mother, girls and lovers, schoolmates and teachers, actors and all others he has encountered in his life. They play - or recall or even dream! - stories about vodka, theatre, love, escaping to the West during the war and staying at home, Moscow, hospital, rehearsal, deportation, school and again vodka and love. The play is based on Voldemar Panso's memories, articles and diaries.
