"In his youth Vincent van Gogh lived and worked in England for some time. Vincent's letters to his brother Theo and correspondence between their older sisters and brothers have survived to this day. One can clearly see the family's worry for their unstable son, who lives alone in a city with very questionable morals. I began to speculate on what could have happened to him in the 1870s because of an intriguing time gap in Vincent's letters and the well-known fact that young men tend to be very close about events that shape them most" (Nicholas Wright)
