It is a story about the people of Krimuna village who have decided to go to Tartu where the first song festival is held. Despite various difficulties they encounter: the people of Krimuna cannot read or even sing, they have a habit of stealing and lying which means that the landlord of Krimuna does not think that these boors should go to the song festival. There is no way they could learn to sing and become Europeans.
But surprisingly, with the help of a young teacher Livio the people of Krimuna are able to learn the songs and go to Tartu. This is what the play Estonian Matters is about - the awakening of Estonian people.

It is an exciting story with songs and it tells about the first steps of Estonians on their way of becoming Europeans.
