Mati Unt: “Raymond Queneau, the famous member of the French literary group OULIPO, has a famous text named Exercises du style (Exercises of style). 39 texts from the whole of 99 have been translated into estonian and publised in the magazine ''Vikerkaar''.


The original tells two sequent stories, both banal ones. For the first a kind of bother develops between two men in the S-line bus during the rush-hour. Later one of them is seen in front of the railway station of Saint-Lazaire, where somebody third suggests him to sew his mantle one extra button.


Queneau has told this story very shortly and in 99 different styles.


Thinking of Von Krahl and the coming play, I decided to set aside the Saint-Lazaire railway stations and others. So, the story before you is following the pattern of Queneau for the most part, but the plot itself is taken from Peet Vallak´s classical short story „The countrywoman“. So that the whole text is completely new and only structurally fitted into the „tabel“ of Queneau. There are perhaps some 10-15 Queneau´s own sentences in my text.
