'Zounds! These are mortal stabs to me,
to see vice parleyed with,
and sometimes I feel suddenly inclined
to fly into a wilderness far from the approach of men.'

"Is honesty in human relationships possible?" the Misanthrope asks. Alceste, the Misanthrope, draws back from his world because he cannot bear its falseness, dissembling, artificial cheerfulness and ambiguous politeness. He wants to be completely honest with other people and expects it from the others, too. This leads to a collapse of the structure being a basis for the social living together. Alceste gets many enemies and would rather leave the world forever. If there was not Célimen who artistically veils the sharp eye of Alceste and makes him forget about all of his principles.

A director with a unique style together with a young and powerful company of comedians confronting this ever topical topic.

Once again, VAT Teater is pleased to cooperate with the Swiss director Markus Zohner who directed here the cool epic 'Kalevipoeg' almost five years ago.

The play in one act lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Target audience: young people and adults
Planned premiere: 12 October 2008 in KUMU auditorium
