Scottish playwright David Harrower was born in 1966 in Edinburgh. His play "Knives in Hens" was first staged in 1995 in Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre.
The "Knives in Hens" has been performed also in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Oslo and other European countries.

It is the old Scottish story about the fear and lust. In the village there are ploughman, his young wife and miller who is hated in the village.
In this play besides the created world there is also own psychology that is familiar and surprising in the same time.
It is the story about young women who is against the laws dominated in the men's world.
It is the story about primeval rebellion, yearning for happiness, renouncements and redemption.

First premiere of the play was in Viljandi Dramatheatre "Ugala" in 1999.
