David Williams is a young British artist who is asked to write the introduction to a book about the life and work of the famous artist Henry Breastley. To do this, he is given the opportunity to visit him at his country home in the middle of the picturesque nature of Bretagne.

The artist is living in a vineyard mansion with two young girls and is known to be a wild hermit. The lifestyle there has a certain sense of primal freedom. The following two days will be the most controversial days in the life of David Williams. The charm of the scenery and one of the girls - Diana - capture his mind and the conventional married man is faced with a serious dilemma.
