Aleksandr Griboyedov (1795 - 1829), a refined diplomat, a bilious person, a wit and a dueller, himself never experiencing happiness, but able to instil it in others, has a firm place in the history of Russian literature with just one comedy - Woe from Wit.

The most brilliant verses of the comedy, music of the language, immortal characters whose family names - Chatsky, Molchalin, Famussov, Skalozub, Repetilov - have become common names which have not faded in two hundred years.

At the Russian Theatre, the play is staged by the bright Moscow director Juri Jerjomin, who is known to the public by his scandalous production To Moscow! To Moscow! and Idiot.

In the lead roles are Aleksandr Ivashkevich (Chatsky) and Eduard Toman (Famussov).
