The production has two casts, although this is not the case of understudies –the story played by one cast slightly differs from the other.

The Birthday Party is Pinter’s first full-length play. In a solitary boarding house by the sea, a failed pianist is living his dreary life, amidst endless arguments with his landlady: He is the only boarder. One evening the landlord meets two gentlemen on the beach who enquire about accommodation. They turn up the next day. Their arrival kicks off a number of weird events which culminate in an unexpected birthday party and the fatal power cut.

The Nobel prize winner was an active critic of society who was never afraid of telling the truth to the powerful people of the world. The ruthless mechanisms of power are well evident in his first plays, e.g. The Caretaker.

The play is performed in the Theatre Lab in Tallinn. It has two intervals and lasts altogether three hours.
