Alone Together Again

Ivo Eensalu

The comedy Alone Together by Lawrence Roman premiered in March last year and was enthusiastically received by the Estonian audience (the play has been performed more than 40 times in various places across Estonia). Apparently the main issue in this play - the question how to free yourself from the obligation of taking care of your grown-up children - touches many people closely. Surely the author himself noticed the success too, because twenty years later (in 2004) he wrote the sequel Alone Together Again. The protagonists - the Butlers - are the same and their grown-up sons do not bother them any more but this time they have to deal with their own parents who have reached old age. Again a deeply ethical problem which is dealt with through gentle humour.
